Workout Buddies Make Workouts Better

Having a workout buddy can be an essential ingredient for success in the gym. Workout partners are good for a lot of different scenarios. Weight lifting, circuit training, running drills on boxing, practicing your jiu jitsu, or sparring. Hey, find someone to run on the beach with, if that's your thing.

 

When it comes to HBUTC, we see a lot of our members either bring buddies in with them, or meet people to work out with along the way. There are actually a lot of benefits to working out with a partner, and it doesn't have to be in a synchronized, jump rope routine kind of way. Here are some of the benefits we've seen in having some sort of workout buddy.  

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

Working out with a partner keeps you accountable. If you know you're meeting at the gym, you’re less likely to flake. Your workout buddy can even help you stay on track with diet. When it comes to getting or staying in top shape, accountability is important.

 

MORE FUN

Sometimes, people get bored with their workouts, and end up falling off. Lifting, sparring, or training cardio can be more fun with a workout buddy, and keep you on track. Endorphins are pumping when you’re training, and it can be great to joke and laugh as you sweat.

 

WORK HARDER

It’s human nature, we work harder when we’re being watched. How many times have you ran for 30 minutes on a treadmill and stopped, because, well… that seemed like enough? When we’re working out with someone else, or in a group setting like a kickboxing class, we work harder and longer than we might otherwise.

 

BE SAFER

Another benefit of working out with a partner is the opportunity to help each other maintain proper form and exercise more safely. If your buddy sees your knees shooting forward on a squat, or your whole body jerking up the dumbbells when you curl, they can help you adjust.
